Pigeon House Power Station

During the brief spell of good weather over the last weekend I was down along Pigeon House Road in Ringsend. When I noticed a very unusual and commanding structure that I never saw before. After a little bit of researching as to what it was I found out that it was the Pigeon House Power Station.

I contacted the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) about the possibility of taking some shots of the imposing structure. I was informed that it is currently owned by the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and to make my enquiries there about being allowed access to the building. But due to my eagerness and another brief spell of sunny weather I couldn’t wait and decided to take a quick drive down again and see if there was anyone at the building who would oblige my curiosity. Sure enough there was.

Two very nice gentlemen, all the while reminding me I shouldn’t be there, allowed me the courtesy of a few moments to take a few shots and I went on my merry way very happy with what I got and with my results after processing them in Lightroom 4

Great set, Dan. It makes it even more precious because of the story behind it. For some reason they look better in the link, so I recommend everyone to click on the images and see the difference. The said structure looks fantastic, such fine details, reminds me of a matchstick model. Somehow I prefer the post-processing in the second image, a cooler, better for this abandoned place.

very nice images, I was considering this place for a car shoot. How accessible is it for cars? Any massive speed bumps or dips? the car i’m photographing is very low. Thanks about the owners info too.

they are excellent, really like the processing. Just shows if you go the extra mile and with help of some obliging folk you can get the images that otherwise mightn’t be possible, a lesson there i think.
