Plagiarism Question

Hi all…
On looking through a photographers website yesterday I noticed said photographer had some images for sale that I thought to myself he wouldnt have had the ability to take. I know…. I shouldn’t have made that assumption but I know this guy and have seen work from him previously and it wasn’t up to this quality. Anyway between myself and another PI member we did some google image searches and found pretty much every photograph on other photographers websites (one from Flickr whom we notified) or available on the web for use as wallpapers for free. This guy is offering these images for sale even though he didn’t take the shots. I mentioned this last night in my camera club and whilst searching another site he has registered we noticed that he has 2 images belonging to a member of our club on his site…! These images have been taken from our club gallery which clearly states they are copyrighted. Anyone who knows me personally might have heard the story about a plagiarist before…. well this is the same guy…!!!!
Anyway I was curious if any of yee know the legalities surrounding this type of thing. It has probably come up before as I know this very site had a problem once or twice with it. I and my club want to stop this guy from continuing to do this and would appreciate any help with this matter. I have not named any names and will not so don’t bother asking…!Thanks in advance

So, richie-
who is it?ok then, who’s work was plagiarized?
How about a link to the flickr originals?
I’m sure this goes on all the time,
but if someone uploads a hi-res original on an unprotected site,
they’ve got to assume it’s going to be lifted, if it’s any good.Having it put up for sale-
I’m sure that happens all the time too-
there are machines that can strip every picture off the internet,
however, finding the pictures is unusual-Considering how common pictures are on the internet, the huge glut of them,
I find it difficult to believe that anyone actually buys them,
unless for a commercial reason-It would be helpful to see the pictures-
it’s difficult to address this in a vacuum,
although obviously, image theft is not to be condoned,
according to the message at the bottom of this page-
but that’s not much of a deterrent.I don’t know why you’ve got a difficulty in posting a link…
MartinParticipantPeteTheBlokeMemberDougLParticipantThis thread is useless without a link. Come on, there’s nothing that good old fashioned internet vigilanteism can’t sort out!
richiehatchMemberOk I creased under the pressure…!
Link removed….Sorry I’m a bit paranoid…. PM if ye want the info…!Ye dont have to look to hard to find ’em in other places on the net….!!!! This little linky helps…

stcstcMemberthey are the same crowd who asked me if i wanted them to do canvas prints etc, and listed my clients as theirs
paulParticipantI recognise a number of the images in use.
Plain simple use of other people’s work. How low can you get???
A good number of his nature images are actually the work of Danny O’Brien. I’ve just sent an email to this Bill Leavy character, and also contacted his web host.
I encourage others to do the same.
paulParticipantIt’s not plagiarism at all, it’s breach of copyright.
I just got a response from his web host, who have now removed his Nature gallery (I knew a number of images posted).
So, if you know of images that don’t belong on that website, contact Photium support and let them know.
DedalusParticipantpaulParticipantBill Leavy is the guy’s name. When you Google him, you’ll also see that they have blocked some search returns due to reports of breach of copyright. It’s always worth reporting these people to their web host and also to search engines. It helps block them. Hopefully someone will take him to court for breach of copyright!
robroymanMemberpaulParticipantI see that Billy Leavy has put up a new Nature gallery. I recommend that people have a look, and see if they recognise any of the images, just in case they may not all be his work.
