Not to sure what to make of this one Simon-
Its a portrait, and I’m not sure that the tilt of her head suits her picture-It is a slightly enigmatic pose-
which is a strange thing to say for such a straight on shot-j
RobMemberThe tilt of the head bothers me slightly too, in that it looks
slightly uncomfortable, almost as though she should have it
tilted the other way. I think it would improve the flow and
lessen that slant to the left side of her head caused by the hair
being tied up. I don’t think the frame cutting off the right arm
is helping here either in relation to the flow of lines.
Brave lighting though, nicely exposed and perfectly sharp…Rob.
ThorstenMemberInteresting what people see in images like this. The thing that caught my attention was the highlight on her left (viewers right) shoulder and no matter how hard I tired, my eye kept coming back to this. I wonder what that says about the image? But more worryingly, what does it say about me!? :?

You have a good eye?
:)
Thanks for the feedback guys. This was taken during a training weekend. I’d set the students a task of taking a picture of a topless girl and make it so that you don’t see her boobs in a sexual way at all, just the picture/framing and expression/mood. This was my demo shot (so grabbed quite quickly with my mind on the students rather than the model).
I framed it off left and got her to look out (for a little imbalance) whilst thinking a silly thought (can’t remember what it was now). My hope was that the expression was strong enough with the framing to achieve that goal. The part of the course was on expressions and getting them. Even with the title I gave the thread, you’re mostly talking techie stuff (which is fine), I was hoping for a comment about her expression or the mood of the shot (It’s a long way from a good portrait, just an interesting exercise).
Another below.

Thanks JB, That’s a completely natural expression and head tilt, maybe my camera was a bit wonky, interesting that the head tilt is bothering people…
Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Rob, The hair up was really to be able to see the expressions that we were getting more clearly, she has a very interesting face shape, I’d like to shoot her properly one day.
