This is a combination of 6 individual shots of a Gannet plunge diving at Smerwick Harbour on the Dingle peninsula, County Kerry.
It took me only an hour to work out how to best get this photographed.
Thankfully this bird stayed near me and frequently dived.
(I know it’s a bit dark and that Gannet is spelled with only one ‘t’.)
I think that looks great, well done. I can imagine how hard it must have been to get the camera on the right spot, get the focus correct etc. Amazing it only took you an hour, I can imagine taking days to get this sequence!
Thanks Goosebanker,
It wasn’t really that hard.
This Gannet hunted near me and dived every few minutes.
Often enough it was close enough for shots.
I just kept refocusing on the bird, and once it spotted something (you know when) I hit the shutter and kept the finger down.
The Canon 40D shoots 6.5 frames a second. That helped.
I also need good light to get the speed (1/3200s 400mm, ISO320, F7.1).
The rest was done in potatoshop
so basically you’re just a lucky git.
is this what you’re trying to say?
been on the Saltees and Skelligs this year, and my shots are far from this…
well done!
