Polaroid Photography help

FlipflipParticipant
Hey, after viewing so many great polaroids here, my curiosity has been spurred.
Much similar to when i saw so many great Holga shots here, I want one.
Basically, im just looking for any advice or tips or suggestions with regards to polaroid photography, e.g. getting my hands on a good camera, getting film, etc.
davedunneParticipantMy favourite Polaroid camera is the SX-70. Unfortunately these can be quite expensive on eBay but you could be lucky and find one in an antique shop or jumble sale etc. (I got my one in a local camera shop for cheaper than what they were going for on eBay).
The famous SX-70 Time-Zero film is no longer made so unless you find someone with a stash willing to give/sell you some you are going to need to do some modifications to get it to work with the readily available 600 film.
An alternative to the SX-70 is the SLR 680 which is similar but natively takes 600 integral film.
Other great Polaroid cameras include the pack film series (100, 200, 300 etc) and these can be easier to find on eBay than the SX-70 series. There is lots of camera information on the Land List http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landhome.htm
Or you could start off with one of the more modern 600 or Spectra cameras. The Flickr Polaroid group has all sorts of photos shown so search the tags to see what appeals. http://flickr.com/groups/polaroid_/
Of course the down side to Polaroids is that the film costs can be more than with other cameras.
FlipflipParticipantThe Slr680 looks fairly tempting.
Is there alot of work to adapt the Sx70 for 600 film??
JohnnyMcMillanParticipantFlipflip….all the shots par one or two of my polaroids are done with the SX-70 with “normal” polaroid 600 film you can get in Argos. The modification are only to cut the little tabs off the back of the film cartridge, once you see them you’ll know what I’m talking about, and to get a ND filter for the lense…that’s all. Will post up some more Sx-70 shots as soon as my scanner decides to work for me again…DAMN YOU SCANNER!

FlipflipParticipantOk good, that doesnt sound too bad. Handy enough.
Are the Nd filters hard to come by? Or do they cost much.
I really appreciate the help lads. As always, ye have given me loads of useful info.
I think Ill go for the Sx-70. Seems like it gives the results that i like the most.
