    Hi,

I want to purchase portable Studio equipment for event photography and Studio Portraits. I have been looking at Bowens and elinchrom.I am confused due to the last amount of information thats avaliable.

    I have a budget of 2,500 Euros.

Anyone with ideas of best equipment avaliable and where to buy would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Conor

Did you mean to say “vast amount”? then yes, information overload can be a problem alright! :) Or did you mean to say “least amount”?

When you say you want something portable, can you be more specific? Does it need to be able to operate independent of mains supply? If so, it might be worth your while considering something like a Quantum or Lumedyne system for sheer light weight and ease of use. Both Elinchrom and Bowens do battery operated systems as well, so don’t rule them out.

But if you’re pretty sure that you will always have access to a mains electricity supply, then yes, Bowens or Elinchrom are two very reputable brands. Ultimately, choosing one is a bit like choosing between Nikon or Canon. I have a great Elinchrom kit which is a real pleasure to use which I bought from Paddy Barker, who also happens to be a site sponsor. As far as I know he’s got still got some Photo Fest show specials running this week, so if you’re quick you might bag yourself a bargain.

You should be able to get yourself well kitted out with your budget. Perhaps if you could list your requirements here, it would help in defining what it is you need and making a decision would be that bit easier.

I bought this kit from this crowd.
I’m happy with results but it is a beginner kit.

Hi Conor, Paddy Barker of Barker Photographic here. We are the Irish Elinchrom distributors and I would be delighted to discuss you needs. As Thorsten outlined most lights are portable, but mains free is a different matter! Elinchrom have a really popular “Ranger” Battery pack that can power two heads – with a massive 1,100 Ws output – either to one head or split. Power can be reduced in 1/10th f stop increments to just 8.5Ws. Unlike some other systems you also have a modelling light on the heads (50W). Have a look at them here: http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/special_offers.htm .
If you are happy to work with mains power you have a huge choice of heads, which will out perform any battery powered heads. We are also Quantum importers and Lumedyne Dealers.
