Ok so I was just wondering if anyone had any tip, or Advice on building a portfolio for weddings, and portraits.

    Hi Shane,

Portrait portfolio can be easy to build. Friends will be happy to sit for you in exchange of good quality prints. Try as well local theaters. Actors always need pictures. There I just advise you to not give prints, just digital files. This for two reasons First you want to be known as a good photographer not as ‘mr free’ and second… because it costs you. It is important also to build a diversified portfolio, and therefore to seek different models.

Weddings are different. The business has change a lot and our parent’s wedding pictures have nothing to do with what’s available now. The best way is to find a photographer in need of an assistant for instance. It will give you experience and a good training as well. But always bear in mind that wedding photos are for life and you will have one chance to take the pictures. So the pressure is one your shoulders. And that’s why it could be a good start to work on your portrait portfolio first. You will gain experience in working with people, catch the natural light, work with flash(es).

    Good luck.
