Portmarnock at night

Hi guys,
I’ve recently joined here, having almost equally recently started to take photography a bit more seriously.
A couple of Saturdays ago, I was putting the dog out before I went to bed and the sky caught my eye. It had been a long time since there was a clear night. Having experimented in night sky photography in southern Spain for the first time in early August, I figured I’d try to remember the settings that worked there and give it a go. I got some nice ones in the garden and then headed to the beach with my tripod to capture some more. If anyone knows Portmarnock, you know Tamangos is practically on the beach, so this may not have been the smartest of moves! :wink:
Anyway, I’d appreciate some feedback on these, as I’m just starting out on this love affair with photography and I know a little knowledge will help me no end.

A very ‘busy’ sky, especially in the 2nd shot! Great capture. Approaching planes are a plus in this case. I know the limits you face when venturing so close to the water, but it would have been nice to get more reflections in the sea.

Would proximity have increased the reflection? Or height? As I said, really just learning the most basic of ropes so far.

I couldn’t tell, Dave. I’m no expert either. I “kinda” have an idea where the shot was taken, so I wouldn’t know the geography on Portmarnock beach. As I remember, the beach is quite wide, but who can say how steady a tripod would be on a sandy beach at a time when you can’t see much?
I would probably try to get closer to water to get more reflections and leave the dog home :D

Yeah, I think being closer would help. I was quite a distance away when I took those shots. Could have gotten a fair bit closer alright.
