No sure about this. Don’t know weather to bin it or keep it. Shot of the old church near Poisioned Glen Donegal.

    MJ,

My advice to you here would be to never bin anything unless it’s turned out to be a complete disaster; it’s alway useful to hang on to old images in case you want to use a part of one or other, or simply as a learning reference for similar shots you might take further down the road.

Regarding this particular image, while it’s not a complete disaster it does have a couple of serious flaws in my humble opinion, most noticeably the crop/frame you’ve chosen. A wider angle taken from further back, or even portrait format, would have taken in the foot or foundations of the building, which in this image, because they’re not visible, looks stunted and not as majestic as it should. Also, there seems to be a little blurring (almost looks like smoke?) on the front corner of the steeple near the top.

Overall, the image could be sharper and more contrasty though I really do like those grey and gunmetal shades overall. A nice sky, even if a little blown in that mid right section.

    Regards

    Rob.

    Thanks Rob,

Great advice and observations. The main reason the crop is so tight is because there was huge amount of dumped rubbish (including a T.V) at the base of and around the church and I think in hind sight that meant that the possibility of a getting any sort of decent shot was going to be difficult. The smoke is probably from me doing a butcher job with my dodging and burning in PS. I will be in that neck of the woods over the next few weeks so I thnk I’ll have another go if conditions are right.

Arrggghhh! Illegal dumping! There’s nothing more infuriating, and in such a beautiful location as the Poisoned Glen. Whoever does that should be strung up

Illegal dumping is nasty ignorant stuff to be dealing with. I sometimes have to deal with it through work. I have been thinking of putting together a compedium (posibly a calender) of shots with the illegal dumping-litter left in in classic Irish landscapes. I was going to call it ‘Irish Littery Greats’. Anyone up to the challenge.

Couldn’t agree more….The Dargle valley in Wicklow should be renamed”The Gargle valley”…Beer cans a plenty :)

    Noely,
That sound like a good start the ‘Gargle Valley’. Any shots?

Sounds like good suggestion for an interesting ongoing project on the forum.

If people were interested I could move the discussion to a new thread. What do ye think??

    Guys,

FYI, I’m currently toying with the idea of doing a site calendar.
Still early days in terms of thought but into it. Might be too late for 2007 at this stage
