Position Of Monitor
-
mgstParticipant
I am in the process of a big tidy up and thinking of moving the PC at present there is a west facing window
behind the monitor so there is normally a bright source of light behind the monitor. Can any one suggest the
best position in a room for the monitor should it be away from the window or should i just leave it where it is.Thanks
Mickj_machaleParticipantI don’t know how much space you have but I would def try not to have the window behind the monitor as you’ll get eye strain as your eyes struggle to focus on the darker light source i.e. your monitor. I would always try to have my monitor facing into the centre of the room as much as possible but without having a window directly behind me so theres minimal glare?
I have no idea is that answers you question at all at all :D
John.
mgstParticipantCheers John this is where my post processing could be suffering i have enough space to put it at
the back of the room which will be about 13 feet from the window so i will try that before i settle
on the final layout of the room. Thanks for your quick response.

stcstcMemberbe very careful having lots of natural light falling on your monitor. you will never see the same picture twice, as the natural light is always changing
GCPParticipantI would get it away from the window light at any rate. I would then try to have it placed with a neutral colour wall behind it. 18% neutral grey on the wall would be good ……….. easier on the eye also. Try not to allow any window light or natural light to fall on the screen. Use a screen shade (which is easily made) and keep the room darkened (not blacked out). If you are printing your own in that room, change your electric bulbs to the CFL type but get the ones that have a colour temp of 6400K. They are cheap and near to daylight and are pretty neutral whem looking at colours. Do change them every 3 to 4 months though.
mgstParticipantThanks steve and gerry the monitor has been moved away from the window i will see how it goes as i have
another week or so before i decide on the final layout of the room.Mick
JMcLParticipantYep, definitely get it away from having the window behind it. I had mine like that for a while, and when the sun hit the window in the afternoon (not that that’s been much of a problem this summer!), I’d find my eyes get tired really quickly. I’ve currently got it at just over 90 degrees to the window with a wall behind, and I have to say it’s much better.

digitalfotomanParticipantI couldn’t look at a monitor with a window behind it , keep it away from the window I reckon.
mgstParticipantThanks to all for their replies its away from the window about a week now and its much better.
Mic
specialmeracMemberdigitalfotoman is right. The window should not be behind the monitor. Always the window and the monitor should be facing you when you are operating the PC that would prevent the glare in the monitor due to the light from the window.
