Hi John
You have worked really lovely tones into this image, and the low angle you picked for this really works … I can’t help thinking that the BIG rock in the foreground is very distracting and takes the interest from the Dolmen in the distance. Perhaps if you cropped into the image more this could be avoided ?
Where is this by the way .. looks like a great subject for shooting :)

Lorraine, its right smack in the middle of the Burren, on the way to Ballyvaughan. You cant miss it, you usually have to dodge all the tourists walking on the middle of the road.
John, you already know what I think of this image!
AliParticipantGreat shot. I remember this from my second year school tour :D. Hmm, 12 years ago now. l love the depth in the shot and how the viewer’s eye is automatically drawn
from the bottom of the image up towards the main subject. Very nice. :)AnonymousParticipantI’m with Lorraine on this one John  ,the rock is very dominant in the image, although its still a super shot i would tend to crop in a bit.Great job John-would love to see more..

Ali do you mean second year in primary school?
I think the same as above the foreground rock is dominant but like the photo.
I would just change the name to ‘Rocks’….?John DunneParticipantThanks for all your cooments. The dolmen is near Ballyvaughen in the burren as Carl said.
Two words of warning though.
There is a big rope barrier all around it. I arrived at about 10 Am during the winter after driving from Portlaoise to take this photo only to see a rope barrier all around it. A hefty one too. I was gutted. So i decided to drop it for my shot and then put it back up again. As i did i heard a man shouting from a hut. Lol. Don’t touch that. So with enormous difficulty I tempted him to let me drop it for my shot. But i could only drop some of it. So i had to clone it out all over the place.
The other point is that during high season this place is thronged. Not a hope of a shot.
Great place though.
Thanks Again. I m gonna try some crops on it, but i put that ock in the foreground on purpose.
LoGillParticipantPersonally I’d love to see a cropped version (although its the kind of shot where I’d love a play with the raw:)) – but you know half the time that leaves you thinking the original was better ;)
Sounds like it was and adventure taking the shot – I’m planning a little trip wesht later in the winter so I may stop buy there. looks fabulous
I’ve added into my notebook ;)

Noely FParticipantGreat Dolmen…..I like the angle ..makes ya want to look up,the problem with these sites is the amount of visitors they attract leads to the rope barriers….which makes it awkward for photographers and pagans alike :D
KPMParticipantI was there during the “summer” and although I had been hoping to see, and shoot it, while in the Burren we came across it by accident (in other words we got lost!!).
Tourists everywhere, and that rope !! – I was very disappointed. However, if you get up close to it and are prepared to lie on some very sharp rocks you can take a shot from ground level – see link

My personal choice would have been to take some shots similar to Daves, as I think that style works very well.
I like the shot and it was what I had been looking for, but I had to compromise. Perhaps if we all went back we could take turns at holding yer man down while the others shoot away at the ropeless dolmen !!??
