Hi all does anyone have any advice on how to obtain a press card and press number!
i am currently starting out as a free-lance photographer and want to gain photographic accreditation for some up coming games and need the pass and number for them!
i would appreciate any feedback.
Eamonn.BarkerPhotographicParticipantThe NUJ National Union of Journalists) press card is the only one worth having. However to be eligible to qualify for one you have to be able to prove that about 80% of your income comes from PRESS work. The NUJ’s HQ is in Dublin- with branches around the Country.
paulParticipantIf you want to shoot sports, then you need to get an AIPS card. Again, you need to go through ASJI (Association for Sports Journalists in Ireland), and prove that you work for a media outlet. – http://www.aipsmedia.com/index.php?page=directory&cod=5&country=IRELAND&sw_menu=4&sw_smenu=13″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
You only get a “Press Pass” if you work for the press.
Even then, a press pass is simply an ID card. It does not get you access to anything. You still need to apply for accreditation for each event individually.
eamo8Participantthanks a million for your input lads i went from the i.r.f.u to the leinster branch who put me in touch with the e.r.c who said i need a press card number!! so went on from their to the n.u.j who couldn’t help me!!
not sure if i’ll have any joy on the aips card because i’m not full time with the paper but ill give it a try!!thanks again
BallymanParticipantYou’re obviously trying to get to a heineken cup game? Forget about a press card and get the paper to apply directly for you to the erc. They should have registered with the erc at the start of the season otherwise you haven’t a hope unfortunately.
eamo8ParticipantDoh!! that rules that out then!! i’ll have a chat to the editor and we’ll see what happens!
paulParticipantEven for those of us registered with the ERC, and with a press card, it’s still difficult to get accreditation for semi-final and final games. There will be a lot of press coverage, with agencies, papers, etc.
Unfortunately, I won’t be covering it myself, since I’ll be out of the country.
Anyway, your best bet now is to talk to the editor and see if they can do anything for you. At this stage, there may be very little. Usually, you apply to the ERC at the very start of the season, and then per event nearer the date.
