Yep, I was in Conns Cameras yesterday and was told exactly the same thing by the sales guy.

The item I was purchasing was set to rise by about €35 when the next batch was delivered to the store.

I’m heading to Derry today to use up my vouchers for jessops before prices soar and
I also see that jessops is getting hit hard in the shares market so i don’t want to be left with
vouchers I cant spend if they close

Just when we all thought that inflation was on the way down…

The prices up North are fanstatic right now. It couldn’t last unfortunately. The weak £STG makes those prices into loss makers.

Typical. We still get screwed despite the fact it’s not our currency going down the toilet :(

I might add that what I was buying cost €235 and was set to rise to €270… so that €35 is a significantly large % of the original price.

    Great…..

I rang Jessops yesterday to see if the had the 450d I was hoping to get….. “yeah, we have a good few”. Rang them again after reading this and guess what – sold them all yesterday!

Tried Currys and there is ONE in Belfast!

The 50stg cash back ends the 12th….. so knowing my luck, I’ll miss that boat, AND then they will increase the price.

Incidently, I see STG/Euro is back “down” to 92p

Order the 450D online – i got one for 608£st with 2 lenses – even with the delivery of 35£ it was a hell of a lot cheaper than any of the irish places. And it is still in stock. Only gripe i have is the hassel to confirm my delivery address as a 1st time order – non of the docuements I faxed were clear!! As I don’t have a scanner it was a pain to get it sorted. If you use warehouseexpress.com – bare this in mind. It’s delayed my order by a few days. Nowhere on the site did it mention the need for documentation confirming address for a first time buyer!! But I did notice the prices were creaping up!

    Hi Deborah,
Did you pay with verified by visa secure payment option? I only ask as I wonder if I will also need to fax them my details, although I have a vague feeling I ordered from them before!
I plumped for the 50D body with a battery grip as an upgrade to my 20D so delivery was a whooping 57.50GBP :) still cheap at the price though! I was totally torn by the 5D Mk2, however, I decided that at the moment the 50D (which is totally up to my needs) with some new shiny L glass and tripod to follow is far more practical than the 5d Mk2 alone.
    Hope my transaction goes smoothly….

I emailed them a copy of my vodafone bill eventually. I left my laptop at home and my work email firewalls everything……………
None of the docs I faxed where good enough………….. my work fax showed them perfectedly – when I faxed them to myself………….
To be honest this is a starter camera for me. I have family in the Dubai and feel a retail trip to Singapore later this year. It is amazing for electrics etc. I’m finishing a part time MSc and need a distraction!!! Allergic to my thesis. Figured I’d take up something that doesn’t have anything to do with my job!

    Hi,

Well I still fancy the 450d. I did look at the online option and thought great…. until I came to the 57stg postage. I live not far from the North so will pop up in the morning.

Even though both Currys & Jessops have increased the price by 20stg I still prefer the over the counter option where possible……

Deborah, the 450D looks like a great camera and I am sure it will be a very good distraction from your thesis :) I will try fax them on Monday…it seems verified by visa…still needs verifying by bill also….I thought that was the point of verified by visa but there you go. If the fax is no good I will scan my bill at work.
Bricker if I still lived in Swords ( I come from Rivervalley originally) I would def be on the road to the north (although the price I paid balances out the postage costs) but from Clare it is just a journey i cannot make at this moment in time….have done it with a stop off at the folks which makes it easier and without a stop off which is a long drive.
You might like to know that Calumet is having a mammoth (there word not mine) store only sale at the moment.
This is the Belfast store address:
    Boucher Plaza Unit 2
    4-6 Boucher Road
    Belfast, BT12 6HR

Thanks Maire, the deed is done!

Calumet didnt have the 450d in stock, and Currys only had one in Lisburn. I am in River Valley and do the belt up the road around once a month to stock up on essentials (like wine!).

I got the 450d & 4gb memory card for 460stg, Also paid a visit to Ikea while we were at it….. everybody came home happy.

Now all I need is a chance to use it!
