Hearing the price of film is going up Fuji by 20% and Kodak 10%, not pleased, but it will not put me off using film might slow me down a bit, no harm in that always been a bit wasteful when it come to film, much more careful with paper. I am concerned the trend for price increases will drive some users away which could have a long term impact on supply of film products :( .
It’s already near crippling. I bought 10 rolls of tri-x and 5 rolls of portra earlier and that set me back just shy of €100 :(
Not sure what the current prices are, but you should consider shopping around. Seemed TriX could be bought online not so long ago for about €3 a roll. Silverprint, Macodirect, and even Freestyle photo (in the US), can be good sources if you’re prepared to buy a bit at at time.
Freestyle’s own brand film used to be great, as it was rebadged film from Kodak, Fuji and others. Their Arista Premium 100 & 400 were widely acknowledged to be PlusX & TriX, respectively, while their Legacy 100 & 400 used to be Acros & Neopan, respectively. Not sure what’s available from them now, but definitely worth shopping around, if 15 rolls of film are setting you back a hundred quid :)
I was thinking of using Agfa vista instead of portra and sticking to trix because that’s not too expensive but I haven’t shot enough colour yet to really be sure what I want or dont want
It’s gone up a few times over the past year. I buy it from B&H when I can, Velvia 35mm used to be $35 for 5. It’s now around $43, it’s gone up twice in the past year. I just bought 50 rolls from Gunns a while back before prices went up again, just took whatever they could get hold of, which was 50! Sitting in the fridge now.
