hey everyone
I thought i would make a useful little card, I am going to have them printed as postcards. but for now i have put it on my website
its a pdf with a table of common photo sizes and pixel resolutions required at various pixel per inch
anyway, its here
http://www.360-dpi.com/tutorial/print_res.pdf
please let me know if you find it useful, and also if you see anything either wrong or what would you like to see be added
stcstcMemberhey everyone
I have printed a bunch of these as postcards, anyone who wants one, send me your details and will send you one

Can I ask you a technical question about print resolution etc? I am using the Epson R2880. I normally set image resolution to 300ppi – is there any benefit in increasing it to 360ppi? Is the benefit noticeable in the final print, or is it more to do with satisfying the requirements/settings of the printer itself? And finally, should I start learning about ‘output sharpening?’ I only stumbled on this topic recently, and was never aware of the supposed need to slightly over-sharpen for home printers. I know this is a big topic on its own, but would you recommend things like Nik Sharpener Pro in this regard? Is output sharpening necessary only for home printing, or does it also apply to commercial prining labs?
Thanks,
RossstcstcMemberyou want to ideally use 360 PPI as the native resolution of the printer is 360
so if you give it 300, the print driver does interpolation on the fly, and is therefore not as accurate as photoshop doing it
no on a A4 print i doubt anyone could see it, but as you get to larger sizes it can become noticeable
there seems to be a big buzz about output sharpening at the moment, all created by a guy in the states, who i cant remember his name
i technically dont do output sharpening. but i do use an application called Qimage, and it does do it
but i dont use that for everything, most images i print from photoshop individually
give me a shout if that dont make sense
GizzoParticipantok with this I am going slightly off topic. (GOAT #whatever)
the .tiff files I sent you recently were sharpened, have you done something before printing them?
(not accusing, but I am just trying to find out a decent workflow)stcstcMembermarkst33ParticipantHi Steve, I would like one of those postcards alright. How do we go about getting one ?
