Co-coincidently one of the main monthly photo mags did a test on different papers with Epson 2400 in the Jan ’09 edition.
They tested the following NON epson papers.
Fotospeed Platinum Unglazed Gloss
Fotospeed Platinum Lustre
Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta 325
Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta
Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk
Ilford Galerie Smooth High Gloss
PermaJet Fibre Base Gloss Warmtone
Permajet Fibre Base Royal 325
The test got excellent results for all papers for colour. All got excellent for mono also, except Ilford Gallerie High Gloss which scored a litttle less than excellent.
Getting started in inkjet printing can be very very tricky, especially getting the colours to print correctly.
Many get quite a diferent result on their paper from what they see on the monitor!
You can get very poor results at first even if you use Epson papers or any of the above.
Issues that can effect the outcome include
* Is your monitor correctly calibrated?
* Are you using the correct printer / paper combination profile
* Are you using colour management correctly? -in other words have you set up the settings in the printer dialogue box correctly.
yes printing can be feky- if your not sure let the printer manage the colours and turn it off in ps/elements/lightroom, even then buy a heap calibration tool like a colormunki or spyder
