Printing and Selling Photos?
-
BlindVisionParticipant
Hey Guys,
I have three questions that i am wondering if ye could help me with. I have finally decided to try and sell some of my photos.
1.
When you are trying to sell images what is the best size to Print them out in for your portfolio.
I am planning on trying to sell a couple of image to the Cork City Council and to the University College Cork and i want to be able to show my images in the best way in my portfolio. I’m guessing that they cannot be too small or too big :) what is the right size, is there a standard size when using images in a portfolio. Some of the images are landscape and some are portrait dimentions.2.
Leading on from the first question, Who/how is the the way to sell a poto to a universtity, I have a couple of images i would like to try and sell to UCC but i dont know how to go about this, is there a certain department within the college that you would get onto? Same would go for Cork City Council.3.
I am wondering where is the best place to get prints made up? Im in Cork so local would be great or are there any site that are good to get good quality prints from. Thanks in advance,

I can certainly advise on portfolios. We have a lot of experience doing exactly that and also with making prints at a quality level suitable for selling into collections.
We can even get a bespoke portfolio box made for you or can supply your prints in a folio (Brooks Jensen style which we import from the US)
stcstcMemberi have actually starting making those brooks jesen esq portfolios for my clients
I can custom cut them to size etc
and also deboss you name etc on them
iophotoworksParticipantThe standard Brooks Jensen style portfolios we import are 11″ x 8.5″ a close match to the size of a typical photobook and a very user friendly size. They have a cut-out window on the front so show a signature image (with text if you like). We have 3 colours currently … midnight black, charcoal grey and truffle brown. Pictures are pricing will be available on the iophotoworks website very shortly. They are designed to be small, cost effective and reproducible. Good for selling and for sending off to picture editors, galleries etc. If you would prefer one custom made using a different material with debossed text this is also possible.
However, to make a serious impact with a view to selling works into a collection I would be recommending more sophisticated options.
BlindVisionParticipantHey Phillip/iophotoworks and stcstc for replying. Ye have got me really interesting in getting this all sorted :) I think i am going to get what photos and all that i want to get done and i will be onto to check out product and pricings :)
