processing help needed!

    Hello all,

first post from me in a long time. I need a little help. Am working on a series of family portraits and have been trying to get a, soft, natural, low contrast, dare I say it, vintage filmly kind of look. I’d like to keep it as natural looking as possible.

I added a solid colour fill layer to this, using the colour dropper to pick the colour then playing with blending modes an opacity. Also did something with another layer, but I really don’t know what.

I couldn’t be more useless with photoshop. If you can help, I’d be very grateful.

Not much good at PS myself, but it looks like you are nearly there, maybe a little
desaturation might bring you a bit nearer what you are after? There does seem to
be a bit of pinky hue to the sky was that intentional?

Good to see a post from ya Sinead :). Can’t help on the colour stuff, but I do like this polaroid type look to it.

Jenny, Mark, thanks for the replies…

The pink was a bit strong, but, yes intentional. Did about 20 different versions of this today, and am a bit closer to look I’d like.

Sorry for the late reply Sinead …

you could try the following …

add a “levels” layer and with the “output” slider (the one under the main histogram slider) adjust the lefthand slider to the right … this kills the blacks and offers the faded look … then add a “hue/saturation” layer and select “shadows” and add a little blue tone to them … I think subtlty is the key …

let me know how you get on …

    Phil
