Protecting lenses with filters ?

Thanks all for the feedback/info. I think that i’ll only get one for use when my wide lens in
under threat of sea mist/spray. Other than that I’ll go without.

Interesting comments, I always used a UV filter as protection but based on some of the comments above and given that I have never scratched a UV filter I think I will remove the filter from my primary lens and check out the results.
