Just wondering if you break the rules can you still win?
You can’t I’m afraid, although I’m sure Mark will confirm this.
ConsiParticipantaoluainParticipantFew Rules
1. Its not just Photoshop, you can use any tool to edit the photographs.
2. A new challenge will be posted approximately every 2 weeks.
3. One entry per member.
4. Cannot add any other photographs to the image submitted in the challenge.
5. Keep it clean in content and respectful of the photographer or if a portrait, the person photographed.
6. Several days notice will be given before the close of the challenge (the challenge title will reflect this) and before voting begins.
7. Don’t vote for yourself. I can tell
8. Challenge thread will stay open for a few days after the voting has closed so that the winner can let everyone know how they achieved the processing (if they want to that is)
9. Keep the width of the image to a max of 800px wide, ie so it’ll fit on most people’s screens.
10. Have fun and join in !!!
I think this is what Photoeye is hinting at.
MarkKeymasterSize isn’t really a problem, its more that its more convenient to viewing,
However, not adding to a photograph is a key one. Its a photography processing challenge not a digital art challenge.
I’m going to modify that rule to make it clear that you can’t win if you put trousers on the starfish ;)FYI, I’m going to be clearing out these question/discussion posts later today so as to keep it clean for viewing/voting.
figParticipantI thought this might cause a bit of hassle when I posted it but I decided to post it anyway for the following reasons.
1. It was crying out to be turned into Patrick!! :-)
2. Even though I didn’t draw it, I could have used photoshop to draw those on and thus not adding a photograph
3. The challenge was to “Process it if it was your own image” If this was my image I would make it Bikini Bottom Special
4. Rule 10. said “Have fun and join in !!!”I will of course withdraw Patrick from this challenge but I respectfully request that the rules be chaged to allow this. While I agree that people shouldn’t use their own photos to add to the challenge cause there are some really talented photographers here, I do think that drawing something on to the image or maybe doing speech bubbles and things like that just add to the fun of it. It’s not a serious competition and we did kind of agree before that we should do what we want, don’t expect everyone to like it and let people decide. And of course it is after all a photoshop challenge not photography (a camera isn’t even involved in the challenge)
Anyhoo, no problems at all, just a bit of craic but you might as well leave this discussion on for a little bit mark, see what people think?

Hi Phil,
I agree with alot of what you saying espically “have fun” but if I thought you could “ADD” something thats not in the photo I would have done the same as I’m sure others would have done. I think to be honest your photo is probably the best but I still think to keep it as a processing challenge we should stick with the rules Mark’s set out. Maybe we need to have a referendum. Lets see what others think.
figParticipantPhotoeye: No problem I will absolutely withdraw this one. I am only talking about future challenges. I completely see how this was unfair if people didn’t know.
PeteTheBlokeMemberFig,
It’s a bit of fun, but the rules are there to set boundaries. I think it would be
a good idea to have a digital art compo, and then – fair enough – everyone can
play with the picture to his/her heart’s content. The rules for this competition are set out in advance and most entrants adhere
to them. You can’t be surprised if they are irritated when someone breaks them.I like your picture though :)
EDIT. Sorry, 3-4 posts went up while I wrote this. Anyway, I’ve said it, so it may as well stay said.
figParticipantI think I’m being misunderstood (wouldn’t be the first time) I’m not campaigning for this photo. I’m just opening up some discussion about future challenges. I’m also not campaigning for a digital art compo, I’m just saying lets just have fun with it and add things like this. I saw in the past people adding speech bubbles and clamps to cars etc. They made me laugh and I had real fun with this challenge.
nfl-fanParticipantPitmaticMemberPhotoeyeMemberPeteTheBlokeMemberI don’t think I misunderstand you Fig. You’re a cheat, a chancer, a controversialist,
an out-and-out selfish self-opinionated manipulative charlatan.
