Mark how would you feel about running a simular challenge where the supplied image can be edited in any way. That way there is more interaction on the site and everyone is happy. Question
Thats the plan when I finish the upgrade. With the capability of having subforums, ie forums within forums as you’ll have seen on some sites,
then we can have areas like this for sure.nfl-fanParticipantHere lads… just so you know… there’s no credability associated with winning the PS Challenge… in fact I’d be pushed to tell you who won the one before the last one… cos nobody really cares.
It’s more like the Wacky Races than the Olympic 100m Final.
This all seems to be much ado about nothing really…
Go FIG!
MarkKeymasterThe PS Challenge is meant to be a learning mechanism and yes a bit of fun. Members new to processing will hopefully see other
takes on the original image. If the winner shares their processing methods which I’d ask that they do then that a bonus. However guidelines or rules are needed.
As to whether there is credability associated with winning it or not, thats up to individuals to decide. Each to their own.
nfl-fanParticipantPhotoeyeMemberThe prize for next months challenge is …….500,000 euro
i will need to get 500,000 euro change from the winner.MarkKeymasterAlan RossiterParticipantcos nobody really cares.
Sorry, but I do take exception to that. We all know that nfl-fans boat isn’t floated by competition but to try to dismiss what some see as a challenge to their abilities, and what some new to the world of PS, etc like to show what new skills they have learned isn’t on John. Try not to be so dismissive of others efforts.
Alan.

nfl-fanParticipantI’d like to see a show of hands as to people who enter the challenge for any other reason other than fun… and let us know what the reason is… ie. share your experience with us… and don’t make up some BS story just to contradict me… be honest.
Personally I enter for a bit of fun… and the odd stir (sorry Mick)… I laugh when Pete complains about the image sizes… I get a kick out of seeing some of the wacky entries… and I get great pleasure out of receiving zero votes cos I know I’ve done rubbish and get a giggle out of it… no shame to be had at all.
I’ve yet to look at an entry and honestly say “I feel completed now… as I’ve learned something”. I mean there’s a gazillion posts that we all look at every day in the C+C forums and other places where we get ideas. It’s very rare that anyone seems to even request the post processing details from the winner… which to me further substantiates my theory that it’s not really about learning.
If I won a Challenge I can’t say I’d get too excited… I mean to me it’s like competing in an Egg and Spoon race… nothing that’s going to go down in history.
On a finishing note.. I like the challenge.. it’s good fun.. and long may it last.. don’t take it too seriously.. you haven’t beaten a rival.. you have spent years training to reach this pinnacle of your career. Fun, fun, fun…

JI work as a print specialist which involves graphic design. I would like to think i have a good knoledge of PS and being new to the site and my first challenge I was hoping to show what I can do as you can see from my entry i went balls out but kept within the rules. I entered hoping to win and yes i would be jumping up and down (at work) if i won.

Think a bit harder about that one Alan.
I’m not dismissing anyone’s efforts in the PS Challenge… and a lot of people around here will know that I’ve done as much as many members here to help people out with post processing.
My point is/was… don’t get too worked up about the PS Challenge… because all it is is a bit of fun… nobody is going to look at you in a different light as some wise master, a source of great knowledge and wisdom… if you win a challenge. It’s 5 minutes of fame and then roll on the next round.
That’s not to say you can’t jump up and down or whatever you so choose… good for you if you win I say and enjoy it whatever way you so choose.

Size isn’t really a problem, its more that its more convenient to viewing,
However, not adding to a photograph is a key one. Its a photography processing challenge not a digital art challenge.
I’m going to modify that rule to make it clear that you can’t win if you put trousers on the starfish ;)FYI, I’m going to be clearing out these question/discussion posts later today so as to keep it clean for viewing/voting.
Really this discussion should not have gone any further than marks post above.
I for one quite enjoy the challenge every few weeks and i love to see the results poeple come up with and i do take them seriously. FIG’s entry was funny but to me not a serious entry.
It is human nature to challenge and compete and to strive to beter ones self.
I have great fun with these challenges but try to post my best effort because i want to
get the most votes, plain and simple.I have entered the last 3 or 4 challenges and have got 2 votes in total ! i will keep entering with a view to getting the best
result. There are trillions of posts on the porum with images but the challenge has a theme and to see the results
for a specific challenge is good and helps with other applications to other images.my hand is up!
nfl-fanParticipantIf you look at Fig’s entry there’s actually quite a useful lesson to be learned as far as post processing goes and that is “Layer Masking”.
ps. I entered an element in my image that didn’t exist in the original… so did irishshagua, lousy and Photoeye… but nobody is complaining. Why so?
Alan RossiterParticipantConsider my hand up too. Do I enter to win? Hell yes. Do I get a kick out of it? Ditto. Will I jump up and down? With my back – not a chance!! But I enter just to get a vote to see if my work is appreciated…unashamed I am to say so.
As I publicly patronised nfl I’l publicly apologise too. I made comments in a maner unsuitable for the points made.
Friends? :(
