Publishing to Facebook

Hi everyone.

I know that the law says that once you’re in a public place, anybody can take a picture of you but what about when it comes to publishing these photos?

I have a Facebook page for my photography, but would I be able to post candid street shots on it without getting the permission of the person? If they happen to see it, and ask me to take it down am I legally required to do that? Or is it only a courtesy? I’d obviously take it down if asked, but would that just be courtesy or would it be a legal requirement seeing as it is a photo of them?
