This was a bit of a rush job. Found her in some ivy this morning. Obviously just out of hibernation.
Sure looks menacing, Padraig. Well caught.
BTW, is it bold to ask how you know it was a ‘she’????

Thanks Tom. Only the Queen survives the winter and comes out of hibernation in Spring to start a new colony. She’ll be responsible for thousands of wasps this Summer.
