Question about displaying prints

Hi guys,
I’ve recently been offered a space on the wall of a café in Sligo town to display a couple of my prints, but I’m just wondering if anybody else has done something similar before? What I offered the owner were framed prints (at my own expense), in exchange for space on the wall and 100% of any sales. The owner likes the idea but had a few concerns, namely:
1. Who would handle the sale
2. Empty spaces after a print was sold
3. Damage to the wall from hanging the prints
Has anyone any thoughts on how I should proceed? Thanks,
Mark.IsabellaParticipanti know a few people who have done similar things, a couple of friends have had work hung in restaurants and treated them like exhibitions i.e. the work hangs for a pre arranged length of time, sold work is handed over after the exhibition ends. i believe in order for it to work the restaurant handled the sales exchange. one guy was really successful and sold quite a number of pieces, some were bought by staff on the ‘opening night’ and i’d imagine the little red stickers helped a lot to get further sales going. anyway, with that system there is no worry about empty spaces.
another option would be to have one spare framed so as the gap could be filled almost immediately if exhibition style doesn’t suit.
as for damage to the wall bit of filler and a spot of paint tend to do the job. realistically it shouldnt require any more than that and if the owner cant cope i would suggest you hang your work elsewhere…
hope this is of some use. unfortunately i dont have any first hand experience myself.
best of luckmarkcapilitanParticipantI can totally relate to your question, since I do something similar in Sligo town! Cafe Fleur to be exact! There were fixings on the wall already, so no problems there. If a piece sells, they’re good enough to tell me & luckily I’m always in a position to fill that empty space immediately. If you’re displaying to sell, realistically the sale has got to be done by somebody in the cafe, unless you can sit in the cafe all day everyday
Whether or not there’s commission taken is between you & the coffee shop people.
A side from the above it is a good way to get your work seen as it should be – printed that is, but sales aren’t going to pay the mortgage! But every little helps!insertnamehereParticipantThanks for the advice! I have offered a commission since the café staff will need to handle the sale for me. I have found some adhesive strips that should handle the weight, so no drilling required, and I have offered to keep some prints in reserve to replace them within a day. Hopefully they will accept!
Thanks again,
Mark.PhotoSligoMemberHey, nice to hear you will exhibit your work! let me know when ready.
Mark, make sure that adhesive stripe is strong enough:) i had one in my kitchen (small prints) and after few months i found picture on floor . Just in case it will hit somebodys head:) maybe try it at home first.brownieParticipantDo not use adehisive strips for framed prints…they will certainly fall and as another person said…if they hit someone you will be liable and could be sued…you have to think of things like this when you take on the job of hanging framed prints in a public place.
Noel.
insertnamehereParticipantSeriously? Can I really be sued if it’s somebody else’s premesis and they’ve agreed? I suppose I’ll have to ask if I can drill if that’s the case.
These were the strips I was looking at, certified for 5Lb, but I see what you mean.

PhotoSligoMemberit is worst scenario.
but sh… are happends.
If you will seat with your brand new laptop (newest apple:):)
and nicly framed picture will hit straight on screen..
What you will think ?:)
Mark you need drill, plugs screws etc. just call in some day:)insertnamehereParticipantThanks Darek, I appreciate the offer! Yeah those Apple laptops are overpriced alright, I wouldn’t want to have to pay for that ;)
I’ll talk to the owner and see if she will agree to drilling.
Mark.

they are very strong and small (15-25mm)at the same time, and most importantly leave barely noticeable hole after removal. I have a2 heavy wooden frames hanging on them as well as large canvas pics. I picked them up in woodies a while ago
jodal1975Participantwhere are they going up mark? ….and im not asking because i want to check out my new permanent marker and a few graffiti ideas i have…..honestly….:-)
insertnamehereParticipantHaha, hopefully in Pepper Alley Dallan, I’ll have to tell them to keep an eye out for any marker-brandishing hooligans! ;)
PhotoSligoMemberOff topic:)
Mark i actualy notice that i have some other thing hang without drilling and as you know i renowaiting my house and to be honest i forgot about some strong (realy strong, they call them chemical nails)chemical stuff you can use for hang your frame, just need to remowe we bit paint from wall before aplying. You can buy them NCF or Heiton buckly or even Mace have them in our… let say “town”:)
TEC 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZvCOvrL1ts” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; – i use it and it is super strong!
EVOSTICK is another made all of this in Heiton Buckley Sligo
They are realy handy as do not have to investigate wall (nails wont work on plasterboards, you need different plugs.. than screws…etc… lots of shi…. with those things:))
I say they are today best solution for hanging anything without driling and you can trust them in 99% if you go follow instruction.Good idea Dyllan, lets check our markers in Paper Alley … there are some other pictures in another coffe shop from another Mark if you like:):)
