I am going to a friends wedding this weekend and wanted to take some nice shots (I am not the photographer for the wedding!!)
I generally try to stay clear of shooting weddings – but would love to get some good shots for her. And to boost my confidence!
Anyhow – one tip I was given was to forget flash and to up the ISO.. What ISO setting would you recommend?
Should I do anything else? Shutter/Aperture wise?
Any good tips on lenses to take?
Other tips?
Much appreciated – been out of practice for a while!
Pop down to Hogges & Figgis (or any other decent book shop for that matter) and pick up a copy of Scott Kelby’s The Digital Photography Book Vols 1 & 2 full of loads of tips and advice. Each of the books has a large section dedicated to wedding photography. Really straightforward, it’s written as if talking to a mate in a camera club. These tips will improve the look of your photos and make things a lot easier on the day. Will help calm the nerves. Worth every penny (about €36 for both if I remember correctly). I was given vol 1 as a gift and subsequently bought vol 2. Helped me immensely. Good luck
You’re not the main photographer, so concentrate on getting whatever you want!! Just keep an eye out for the main snapper so as not to get in the way. As you’re not the main man, you’ll be able to get really really natural stuff, as the couple should be more focused on the guy their paying. Yes, don’t use flash especially if it’s outdoors reception, and lens wise, either primes or 70-200 and you’ll be able to get nice portraits without being in peoples faces! Shoot wide open too, get rid of the background!
