R09 Spezial + Ilford PAN 100

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long should I develop Ilford PAN ISO 100 in Agfa R09 Spezial? I couldn’t find it on the net. I know it is also called Studional. Tried that – no luck. On digitalthruth they seem to have all Ilford film apart from that one.
Thank you for any help in advance.MartinParticipantMaybe try another developer if you can. Link to a PDF for the film with dev times for some of the most common developers can be found here

If you feel brave this is how I work out times for unknown film/developer combinations. Its not always right but can be good to give you a basic starting point.
I have used Rodinal and Ilford Delta 100 as references
So using the massive dev chart and PDF above:
Delta 100 Pro Studional 1+15 iso100 = 6mins (as per massive dev chart)
Delta 100 Pro Rodinal 1+50 iso100 = 10mins (as per massive dev chart)
Ilford Pan 100 Rodinal 1+50 iso 100 = 15min (as per ilfords PDF)10-15 = 50% increase
6 + 50% = 9 minsTherefore I would try deving you PAN 100 in Agfa R09 Spezial at 1+15 for 9 minutes
Again 9 mins is only a starting point. Im taking it that you exposed the film at iso 100
The best way though if the film has important pictures on it is to stand develop it or else try developing just the first few pictures on the role separately to try to work out how far off you are on the dev times
Have fun but don’t blame me if 9 mins at 1+15 ruins your film :-)

WindofpixelsMemberThanks Martin for link and info:)
I will check in town if I can get another developer. If yes, then I will leave R09 Spezial for another brand of film(the one that is listed on charts:). If not, then I will try 9 mins dev time.
Yes, film was exposed at iso 100.I’m just starting with film photography, and it seems that a learning curve is a bit different from digital one:)
Lots of stuff to learn, but more tactile experience and fun.thefizzParticipantIf the images are important to you then get another developer which has developing times listed for this film. The longest developing time listed for any film with R09 Special is 6m, with most of the 100 speed films around 4 minutes. So I’d expect 9 minutes to be way over done. I can see Martin’s logic in calculating the difference with another developer but as Rodinal (R09) and Rodinal Special (R09 Special/Studional) are completely different developers, I don’t think it will work in this case. I could be wrong of course, I have never used this film.

Edit: I was searching online out of interest and found one person recommend 4 minutes which does sound in line with other films of similar speed.
WindofpixelsMemberHi thefizz,
4 minutes could be right, because I found information saying that Spezial requires short developing time.Thank you.
