Rally Ireland

Here’s some shots from stages 4, 7, 8. This is the first time in about 6 years that I’ve shot motorsport without getting paid for it, and my first time shooting a rally…probably last too as I don’t see the attraction of only seeing the cars once every stage…but that’s just me!
sean1098MemberGreat set mark,i love the first, third and fourth.you had some good viewing points by the looks of it.
I think i saw you there yesterday, when i think of it.did you have a green bib on,and two body’s.One with a big tele photo, and the other standard zoom?
Sean.
SeaviewParticipantNice shots Mark, by the looks of the things good clear locations were hard to find. Numbers 3 and 4 would be my favourites as the panning shots are very cluttered.
Dave.
ctwomeyParticipantMark,
Nice images and great variety as well. Below are some of the shots I managed to pull out of the bag, thanks for the advice.

Sean.
Brian_CParticipantMark I’m a bit disappointed. I seen your name on the thread and I really looked forward to opening it. I don’t really like the first two, in the first too much of the car is obscured and the second the ppl are too badly placed covering the car. Same with the last one.
Sean and Conor, were yis at the same corner?? Lovely crisp sharp shots.
monoParticipantI am so pi55ed that I missed the rally, I really gotta stop looking at this thread….great pics tho

markcapilitanParticipantI didn’t have a photographers pass…in the middle of all the spectators for a change! So had to make most of wherever I found…for the panning shots, best I could do was blur the people. The places I went weren’t ideal, but just have to make most of it…you cant fully scout locations beforehand, and where you think cars might jump, until you see them, cant know for sure. Becuase the greasy roads, cars weren’t going as fast as they normally would on straights, so they didn’t do massive jumps. Like I said, I’m not a rally photographer, so critise all you want!
jb7ParticipantInteresting thread Mark-
They’re all almost great shots-
but there are elements in each to spoil the perfection-The first would be my fave-
I like the people on the hill-
but not too sure about the anorak at the bottom-
And the car needs its arches, I think-The second looks almost parked, but nice light in the trees-
Again, shame we can’t see the front wheel-
Some petrolhead blocking the shot-The jumps are nicely caught-
you did the best you could,
and its nice to see the back wheels in the air-
You held the sky in the windscreen,
so we seem to have lost bit in the shadows-
And those stray bits of grass weren’t really helping-
along with whatever else was just out of shot-This looks like a shot that could easily be lit these days-
a flash near the car or something-
just to balance things up a bit-
Now there’s something that wouldn’t have been possible in the old days-And the last one is spoiled a bit by those spectators-
Well taken all though-
Interesting to see the other shots in the thread too-
it is remarkable, they’re almost identical-Nice ones too-
j
markcapilitanParticipantJ, thanks for the comments. Yes, absolutely something always spoils the shot, I could nit-pick all my shots, or anyone elses, thats what photography is about! With the first the guy on the RHS spoils it – I’m not one to go for bog standard boring pans/headons if I’m not working or can help it, so I was going for the gap in the bushes. The 2nd loeb one…he was supposed to jump there! But with the greasy roads, none of them was jumping, I left that position immediately after that shot. And with the other jumping shot, people beside me leaned out partially blocking the LHS, I couldn’t lean out anymore, or I would have fallen on the road!!!! Oh well!
ctwomeyParticipantThey are identical !
To be honest, sean1098 should have removed my images from his response before posting.
Regards,
Conor
