It was less than the size of an AF point in my viewfinder. Anyone got a clue what it is? I checked my ID books and I can’t match it to anything. Noely FParticipant March 26, 2007 at 8:59 pm Looks like a Hen harrier or another Harrier variant, seems to have a very prominent mask. Very similar shot ……. http://www.community-council.org.uk/Douglas/index.asp?pageid=2576 joe_elwayParticipant March 26, 2007 at 9:12 pm I was thinking Hen Harrier too. The “collar” seems to suggest that. But the underside seems lighter. The wings look like a match though. That metallic looking trailing edge make me think you’re right. Thanks Noely. Noely FParticipant March 26, 2007 at 9:15 pm No worries  What habitat were you shooting in? joe_elwayParticipant March 26, 2007 at 9:30 pm Was at Raven Point in Wexford. Coastal. Woodland. Wexford Slob (the huge reserve) is next door. joe_elwayParticipant March 27, 2007 at 9:48 am It would appear to be a female: http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/h/henharrier/gallery.asp PeteTheBlokeMember March 27, 2007 at 10:33 am I’ll go for hen harrier too. Nice sighting even if the photo is not your best ever. John GriffinParticipant March 27, 2007 at 12:26 pm Yep its a hen harrier, females and juveniles look very alike and are referred to as ring tails. So this one is a ring tail.
