Whats your thought on this lens? Im new to the whole photography scene and have recently bought a Canon 450D with a kit lens and I just bought this Lens of a mate for a good price.
Whats your opinions? I only want it to shot some landscapes, people, cars and maybe even wild life and sport? Whats possible with it?
I know I should keep it at no more 250 when shooting : :?:
Thanks
markst33ParticipantI have the Nikon version of it and I find it great. You are a little bit restricted by the minimum aperture of 4.5 at 70mm but thats one of the reasons its so cheap. Great for outdoors use, especially on a sunny day. I was at the zoo on Sunday just gone and used it to take these shots just to give you an idea.

photoboreMemberThis was my first and for a while my only lense and I love it, some people complain that its slow and it only goes to 4.5 but as a start off lens till you figure out all the differnet settings etc., I found it great. Maybe I will feel differently when I get more equipment :-/
Am sure someday (when I win the lottery!!) I will purchase a brighter and more shiny version but for now its great. Not the best lens for landscape though.
Hope that helps.shutterbugParticipantI would say the majority of us has owned this lens at some stage, if you get a good one
then an excellent walk about lens, some Sigma lenses slip through the quality control but
I have to say that I have owned about seven or eight Sigmas and had problems with only
one. It also has a “marcro” facility which is useful too.macmanParticipantI’ve used the SIgma 70-300 on a Canon 400D for around 4 years now and never ever had a problem with it. At the time I was purchasing the lens it’s equivalent Canon version was over €600 and all for having a ‘quiet motor’…!! At under €200 the Sigma was a no brainer. Fabulous lens and as shutterbug points out, with the added macro facility. The newer version of the lens has image stablisation too, unlike mine – but never really found this a problem if handled correctly. I just bought the Canon 70-300 as I picked it up at a bargain price. Just hope it lives up to the Sigma to be honest….!!
