Rechargable AA batterys for flash

I’ve a 580ex Canon flash and it just eats batteries [eventhough its better than the 550 I think]
Its particularly bad in a fashion shoot with some rapid shooting.
Does anyone recommend rechargable batteries that would be good for rapid recharging? Make/Model appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I have the 7dayshop.com rechargeable NiMh AA Batterys, which have a stated capacity of 2700mAh, which is pretty much as high a capacity you will get in an AA battery. They sell them for GBP 7.99 for a pack of 4 in a convenient plastic carry case (so no fear of you shorting your batteries out and causing a fire!). A few sets of those should see you right. I charge mine in a high speed charger but this makes them too hot to touch while charging (it also reduces their lifespan, but at that price they are cheap to replace).

Having said that, whenever I do any shoots requiring rapid flash firing, I use the Canon Transistor Pack E. I don’t have the NiCd version, but the one that takes 6 C cells. It doesn’t have the same high performance spec that the Quantum batteries have, but neither does it have the same high price tag and is ideal for the occassional use that I put it to. It’s available for about GBP 120.00. It connects directly into the high voltage circuit of the flash and reduces recycling times quite considerably as well as giving you an increased number of flashes (obviously). If you’re doing a serious amount of shooting though, you might want to consider a Quantum pack.
