i think i have found the lense for me,

will have to look before asking Q’s any more.

sigma 70-300 seems to be the choice .

It’s a good lens for the price (make sure you get the APO version though). Autofocus is very slow though, so your best bet with this will be to prefocus manually rather than try to track fast moving cars (or birds, etc)!

    Hi Sean,
I bought the Sigma 70-300 lens as probably my first lens purchase outside the excuse for a lens that came with my D80.
It is decent enough for the money you’ll pay for it, but it is a complete ass when it comes to autofocus, I cant even
begin to count the no. of times I had someting almost perfectly focused when the lens shot to the other extreme of
its focusing range and stopped there, before shooting back to being in focus.
It does however have a macro switch which is useful for beginnings in macro photography.
id say if you cant afford something else, get this lens. Ideally wait til you can afford something from Nikon with VR.
Best of luck either way and happy shooting!

    Hi Sean,
If money is no problem to you, Id say, stay away from the 70-300, Save a bit and buy the best Nikon Vr lens you can afford.
However, Im a novice when it comes to photography and cant give you the most seasoned advice, Id suggest going into the
sport section on the forum, seeing someone who’s photos you like and pm’ing them with some questions on which lens to use,
The people on this site are very helpful and open to giving advice to newcomers.
Before I found this place I always used http://www.bhphotovideo.com what I like about that site is you can read all the customer
reviews on any lens you’re looking at. Plus they are very well priced, having said that, I havent bought from them yet, but it
does come highly recommended by others I know.
Best of luck with ur lens purchase, have patience with the purchase and you will get the right lens for your needs in the end.
