Going to buy a DSLR but haven’t a clue what to buy. Just want to take photos of family scenery etc.,not to diffucult to understand and might consider joining camera club! After looking at some of the posts am I right in thinking that Canon EOS 1000 and 450 are popular, priced them and best deal seems to be in Pixmania website 450d -body only-549 euro, or is this a deal as I haven’t a clue what lens to buy or how much they are. Probably willing to spend about 600euro. Badly need some advice!!!
IOPParticipantMisty, have a look at this thread: https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?p=197206&highlight=#197206
miki gParticipantHi Misty. I would recommend the 450d. I got one a while ago and found it very easy to get used to and the quality is excellent.
thephotoguyMemberHey misty i agree with the other posts,go for the cannon 450d but maybe get one with a kit lens (18-55mm or whatevers on offer )or have a look on ebay for a lens but do some homework before you buy on ebay about the lens fitting if you go for a unofficial lens.
Argos sell a cannon EOS 450d with kit lens approx 549.95
Oh and get a decent sise SD card as higher resoulution photos take up more space :D

markst33ParticipantMy first DSLR was a Nikon D50 which I found great, easy to understand and use. They can be picked up second hand nowadays for a reasonable price.
mistyParticipantThanks all for ur advice
Just been offered a second-hand (used only about 10 times in last year)Sony Alpha 100 with a Sigma lens 28-135mm lens €370. Haven’t a clue if I should consider this or not.
Also in Sam McCauleys and they recommended the Cannon 1000D €545 over the 450D because of “processing”, what this means I haven’t much of a clue.
Don’t know wheather I should stick with a new Cannon or go for the Sony!!!!
Badly need more advice please!!!!markst33ParticipantA friend of mine has been using Sony cameras for quite a while now and is very happy with them. They used to be Minolta so they are trustworthy. You can have a look at some of the shots he has taken with his Sony here. http://www.antrimphotography.co.uk
StrumMemberWow great site here. That Antrim Site above has some really stunning shots, nice tutorials aswell!
shutterbugParticipantMy name is Jenny and I am a Sony user :) Fine camera started with the
100 and now have the 700 love them both, no shortage of lenses with Tamron,
Sigma, Minolta etc. Also a plus is built in image stabilizer so you dont have to
worry about the lenses having it.thephotoguyMemberI have heard nothing but good reviews about the sony alpha series, and with a choice of lenses to choose from its a good deal.
brownieParticipantStrumMemberbrownieParticipantStrumMemberYou’re very welcome. I’m a Painter and I tend to go over the top with impossible sky colours etc…Rebel that I am haha…they say there are rules in Art???
