Recommendations for Leica Repairs ?
-
MurchuParticipant
Hi, can anyone recommend, or know anyone who repairs Leica in Ireland ?
Specifically, I have an M3 in otherwise great condition, but seems the steel ring from my strap has not been so kind to the soft brass strap lugs on the camera, and eaten into them enough to make me consider getting them replaced. A little web research has revealed this is not so uncommon with M’s prior to the M6, which introduced steel lugs to effectively eliminate any issues in that regard.
If anyone has any recommendations for someone that could replace them, please chime in. The thought of being without camera for very long, as well as potential high expense for a seemingly small problem, are not endearing the repair option to me, but if it is necessary, it is necessary..
Thanks in advance
btw: have already used Declan in Dublin before, and may do so again, but just unsure if he is the man for this repair, should the job require specific Leica tools, etc. that a specialised Leica repair person/ company may be more suitable for in this case.
MarkKeymasterHi Damien,
I found a thread here on PI. Eddie mentions Noel http://i-image.ie” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; as being a Leica repair expert.
Let us know how you get on if you do use him :)

Cheers Mark, remember talking with Noel before a few years back, and must drop him a line. Will definitely update the thread with how I get on :)
Chris MoodyParticipantI too own an M3 with a small issue so I am interested in how you get on, please keep us posted.
MurchuParticipantHi Chris,
Sorry to hear about your M3 issues, it is a smashing camera, and one I would always rather not be without :)
To confirm, Noel is one such person who repairs Leica specifically, and if considering some work to your M3, perhaps drop him a line. I have not had any work done by Noel to date, but know he does have a special passion for the M3, so might be a good man to talk to. I have also used Declan and Alan McDonald in the past also (for a Nikon dslr & Tokina lens repair), and have been pleased with their work, should you be considering other options too.
Re: my own repair, have sounded Noel out about repair to it, and am just mulling over whether I will send it in for repair, as I had quite a bit of shooting planned for it, before noticing the worn lugs.
Should I have news one way or another, will update via the thread here, to expand any potential info around Leica repairs here in Ireland.
MurchuParticipantWell, nothing further to update, and probably not for a while. After much consideration, have decided to put off the repair for a few months, as I am due a spell off my feet in the not so distant future, and want to use my M3 as much as possible until then. I have found a manageable quick fix for my strap lug issues, and will elaborate on my chosen fix, should anyone ask. Right now, I am just waiting for something to arrive in the post, before I get back to slinging my M3 around with abandon :)
