Remote Control for a Nikon D40

I’ve just received a remote that I purchased on ebay and I can’t get it to work, I’ve checked the battery and all that but, nothing happens. Does any one know if you have to “tune it in”, I’ve checked the Camera Manual and it just says point and fire!!

You have to go into the menu and find shooting options i think then you will see the options
quick response remote ,delayed remote, continious shooting etc select quick response but it does not stay on that setting all the time perhaps 10 or 15 mins at a time so if the time runs out you have to set it up again
I got a few cheap ones when i had the d40 and they did’nt last long, the nikon one can be got in argos for about€20

On my D70 you need to select remote release before using.

On the D70 there is a button to the immediate left of the viewfinder, for selecting remote / multi exposure (looks like a number of pics stacked)

Hold the button down and dial using the right hand selector wheel until selected on the top plate menu at the remote symbol
