Can somebody tell me the name of those tools you can get for pulling the leader out of a 35mm canister when the film has been wound all the way into it? I’ve been googling to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips for pulling the film out without the tool? I tried the method of sticking a piece of damp film into the canister which worked great for me once, but I’ve been unable to repeat the trick. Better yet, is there a way of stopping a camera with automatic rewind from winding the film all the way in?
On certain Canon film SLRs, there’s a custom function to leave the film leader out. Not sure about other cameras, Nikon probably has that feature too. If you live near the north, go up to Jessops and look for a film retriever, bought one there recently since I have a few unfinished rolls that were accidentally wound fully.
I don’t like those retrievers because they pull the film through the slot again, doubling the chance of a scratch. If theres any beer drinkers in your house, a bottle opener will help you pop off the top of the canister
Thanks for the tips. I don’t want to open the canister because it’s a half finished roll I want to put in another camera, but I’ll try the bottle opener tip on another roll.
