Went out snapping today around Nephin Mountain range today and happened
across this . . .It was a weird scene, the beautiful mountain range in the backround and
just off the roadside all lined up, just like well polished classic cars were these
retired rusting workhorses.Went for a walk around the old machines and concentrated on mostly the names of
machinery and a close up of what the wind, water and sun are doing to them.eddie65ParticipantDeeboParticipantYes, great set and well presented. First is my pick too but really like the DOF on the control panel showing all the speedos etc,,
bingbongbiddleyParticipantGreat set, really like what you’ve done here. Pity about the big horrible highlight in the third picture with the gearsticks and the crop on the last one is a bit close to the lights but a nice set all the same.
CooksterParticipantDon’t listen to bingbong, the highlight bleaches out any background detail that might distract from the foreground.
Some of these images would work well in black and white, 4, 7, and 8 might be worth trying.
Not a big fan of the half colourdy processing on the first one, though it is a great shot,m I think the highlights in this one should have been pulled back to darken the mountaintop cloud, maybe give it a more threatening feel.
Have you any shots of the big wheel standing on its own?
Nice set
aoluainParticipantThanks all,
Yes there was a lot of pics from the day out.
Will have to spend time going through them again to see what
works in mono.I dont have a pic of the wheel but im planning to go back there soon again.
I am looking at them now on the pc at work and yes the cloud on Nephin
to the right is ott all right, didnt look that way at home!thanks again
aoluainParticipantguthrijParticipantNice set. I like this subject. If you go back try a few shots really close in to the diggers with an ultra wide angle lens.
Cheers,
John
aoluainParticipantthanks Harold,
will be visiting this place soon again!
here are two I converted to Mono. I added 10% noise to give more texture.
aoluainParticipantWell made it back to this place and a lot of the machinery was gone, recycled!
Actually got taking to the owner of the site, he was wondering what the hell we were doing?
He told us that a lot of the diggers and tractor units were still working despite
how they looked. He said because of the tracks and very wide tracks on some they were great
for going on soft ground and were used a lot for placing telegraph poles on some of the boggy
ground.Passers by have over time smashed in the windows thinking the machines were scrap, a lot of
the lose parts and not working machines have been recycled.here are some monos of the machines in their full rather than closeups.
jb7ParticipantGaryMcParticipantRobMemberaoluainParticipantThanks Guys!!

Joseph I was going to link these into the ‘to post or not to post . . . . ‘ thread,
