Hi Folks,
Please C&C my photo.
It was taken on last Saturday night in Dublin city center.
You can also visit flickr page: RetroCheers,
EFRobMemberEthan,
I like the duotone effect on this. I also like the composition
with the pavement edge leading us into the picture.
Unfortunately the entire image is soft and blurred which
spoils it absolutely for me. Looks like some serious
camera shake issue. Were you running past when
you took this one? You need to slow down, take some
time over your shots. I checked your flickr page and
you seem to have the same issue with every shot in
this set.Rob.
EthanFriscoParticipantHi Rob,
First of all thanks a lot for your critique! The thing is that the blurry, unsharp image was ma concept for that photo. My idea was to create night shot in vintage, retro style (note the duotone and grain). I’ve published two more pictures relevant to that concept on my Flickr gallery. Other ones are shart and ‘healthy’ :)
Thanks a lot,
EFExpresbroParticipantI’m afraid I’m with Rob on this one Ethan. I’m failing to understand why blurring the shot makes it Retro or more interesting. It looks like a good moment shot and I personally would like to see more of their expressions. The same would apply in my mind to the others in the set..it might have been intentional, but it still looks like camera shake or wrong shutter speed selection.
But like all things photography, it’s a personal thing I suppose :D
Keep posting.

8)Alan RossiterParticipantI’ll go against convention…coz that’s the sort of guy I am! I think the blurred effect combined with the colour gives a sense of commotion or hustle-bustle that is connected with a Saturday night in a capital city. Technically speaking the blurred or soft image doesn’t look natural or “correct” but either does the colour if taken at face value. Combined with the situation, the atmosphere and the perception of a busy city street on a Saturday night I think this works in an artistic manner.
Would I hang it on my wall – yes! But I think the “Retro” label may be more distracting than the desired effect.
Alan.
FlipflipParticipantIm gonna go the non conformist direction too!
I absolutely love the combined elements of this shot.
Really busy photo, in a good way. Good sense of hustle, as irishwonkafan said!
ExpresbroParticipantHey..there are three versus two now…
so does that make you all the consensus now?
Ah..it’s good being a rebel…
Alan RossiterParticipantUp the revolution..Yeeeee Haw!
Yeah, it’s a Marmite image alright – you like it or loathe it. But any photo that generates any feedback or indeed, generates differing opinions, has worked for the creator.
I still like it though!
EthanFriscoParticipantYes! I like the controversy around the shot. That’s why I like photography :) Thanks a lot for all comments. Anyway, I’m going to print this image and see how it looks on paper ;) Cheers!
