Riots in Dublin

I’m impressed Ciaran, how close were you to the action ?
Really feels like you were in the middle of it all there.ciaranParticipantI was right in the thick of it for the whole day.. it was a pretty thrilling experience being honest and I managed to get some nice shots out of it too – even if I did have to duck a few times.
RestlessNativeMember1st shot is great, I rarely like a colour shot, but the fire behind the Garda is very dramatic, really makes them stand out
nolongerParticipantThe first shot is tremendously good. The kind of shot that you expect to see in those “best journalism photo of the year” awards :)
ciaranParticipantCheers :D
These shots are very much a case of the right time and right place. I rattled off 100’s of shots on the day – I even had to resort to shooting JPG instead of RAW so I could get more shots out of a card
I’m very pleased with most of the shots I got that day, as I’m sure are most of the other photographers that were around, and there were LOTS of us.
Thanks again for the comments.
MarkKeymasterfilmfredParticipantWonderful colour Ciaran. It feels like I’m right there in the middle of it.
Glad I’m not though :lol:LoGillParticipantThey are terrific shots of the day.. I was also ducking and diving that day, and I happen to remember some more great shots in that series from Ciaran – the injured policeman and the one of the guys witht he tricolour stand out in my mind ..
Maybe we could see them again ..

jlangParticipantGreat shots.
I was at the O’Connell St phase of the riot (by the buildings at the edge of the street with a 300mm lens – I’m no rioter, and no fool!). Ruined half a roll taking it out of the camera (stupid) but still got a couple of nice shots, nothing as vibrant as these.

I started up at the very top of Parnell Street/O Connell street junction and followed the progress of the riot the whole day as it moved along O Connell Street, to the stand off at the bridge and finally to the inevitable police charge. They’re not my usual “style” shots but I was delighted with what I got on the day.
edParticipantYou’ve got guts. Standing in front of that angry mob taking their photography
You could have ended up like Charlie bird

I agree completely.. with hind sight I was stupid and completely naaive to the danger. But the adrenaline on the day and the fact I was getting such dramatic shots just stopped me from thinking clearly. I could understand the press photographers hanging around as they rely on the shots for their livelihoods. In the end it wasn’t guts, just ignorance :)
RobertoMemberI like the first photo. It reminds me the 1989 “velvet” revolution in Prague.
The second photo is my favourite as the picture, nice tones and structure of the fire.sunafterrainMemberHi – Ciaran got some great shots – and a whole bunch of others who were in the thick of it…afraid I was more cautious and satisfied myself with a few shots around Nassau Street…
