Rosslare Bay.

October can produce some beautiful colour in the sky at sunrise and sunset. The sky over Rosslare Bay this morning was lovely.
There are seldom any boats on the sea here to serve as a focal point. I tried to get low to include the stones on the strand as some foreground interest.
Anyway I had to get the camera out. :)

Green glensParticipantBeautiful sky Faythe. This shot would have been exceptional using the “Big stopper” with the clouds coming
in that direction, nevertheless still a good landscape!….John!b318ispParticipantYou’ve captured the clouds very well, but as you seem to suggest, the foreground isn’t doing much for the shot. I’m thinking if a portrait orientation would have worked, but perhaps a longer exposure to blur the sea may have been sufficient.
texMemberThe colours that you have captured are lovely, but I think that your photo would be improved and carry more impact if you reduced the foreground by half.At the moment your photo is divided in half by the horizon which makes it difficult to view the sky. By reducing the foreground the emphasis is more on the sky and its colours. Of course this is but my opinion.

Alan RossiterParticipantGood shot John. I find the proportions good and I also find the level of sharpness spot on – it’s a clear image that I can feel the bite of an October morning just by looking at it. The sky is nice but I know it’s hard to really get across the intensity from reality to photo but it holds well. No mid ground focal point is a lacking feature but hey, who cares! The rock just below horizon is just enough to make it work.

BrickerParticipantHi
The sky is great, Ive been out early the past two weekends and there has been no colour to report – and not a cloud in the sky. I would have been happy with this. Hoping for better in the coming days as I have a few days off work and will have a good chance to get out there.
As has been said, the foreground isnt the most enthralling, but if its not there, you cant shoot it now can you? Orientation is fine, and supports the cloud formation.
Cheers
wesleylawMemberNice shot John, Sky is great. Something is a bit awkward about the whole image but im not sure what..Possibly brightening the lower half of the image.. I know the stones are there in the foreground but they are a bit lost in shadow. Still good for me as it is though.
5faytheParticipantHi to you all and many thanks for all your replies.
Apologies for the late acknowledgement, I was trying to produce a show in our local for the Festival Singing Pubs competition for the last few days. :)John (Green glens) I have often thought about one of those although the morning was very still here with little or no movement in the clouds.
Brendan (b318isp) I did kinda get my excuses in early re the forground. :) The longer exposure did come to mind but I was on my way to work and was crouching at the waters edge in a suit and tie (and me good shoes) and my tripod was back in the car. I think it was a scene that deserved more time and attention. For example if I could have waited a bit longer the stones in the foreground might have been lit better.
Vincent (tex) I photographed compositions including the one you suggested. It is a valid observation and your opinion is valued.
Alan (irishwonkafan) You know this location well. It is an expansive bay which which seldom, if ever, has any passing vessels close enough to act as a focal point. Interesting you should mention the rocks. I thought they might be spoiling it and did frame a few differently to exclude them.
Des (Bricker) Photography can be frustrating to be sure and nature dosen’t always co-operate when it suits us. :) Yes I think the sky is the star here.
Wesley I think if I could have waited a bit longer for more light to fall on the stones it might have been better. Then maybe I might have lost the sky. Who knows. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to have another go. :)
I appreciate all your very constructive and encouraging comments.
John.
