Unusual double post jools,
I wonder what’s the link between the two pictures?I think the first would maybe have been better taken head on,
and the title of the second seems just a little bit off-
I just can’t relate the title to the picture in any way-
It maybe seems a bit contrived.
Lovely irridescence in the fly,
Though it would appear not to be entirely in the plane of focus-Reminds me of my “Memento Mori’ post from a while back-

joolsveerParticipantThanks jb. I have had another look at your photo and I would agree that my apple too is concerned with life feeding on death. Both snaps here are about decay and the year coming to an end and this is the relationship I see and that is why I post them now as we come towards the shortest day.

I don’t think there’s enough in the first shot for it to be interesting. If you took one straight on that you could make B+W with high contrast, then it might do the job.
The second one may be better cropped. There’s a smaller fly that is out of focus, and a drip ditto. If these were gone, I reckon the shot would achieve all it does now, but leave the imagination to fill the spaces.
joolsveerParticipantciaranParticipantTwo technically well delivered shots in terms of exposure, sharpness, DOF etc.
I don’t really see a shot in the first one personally and would go along with the suggestion of shooting it head on. B&W may work too as it might help give it an extra decaying edge. As you can’t do this in photoshop, I’d be inclined to crop out the bottom left of the existing one.
Second shot is disgusting :) which is exactly what it should be. A tighter crop on the right (perhaps square) might work and consider dodging in the white highlight above the fruit.
joolsveerParticipantMadra RuaParticipantPity the focus isn’t on the fly.
What are the white filaments? Looks like a fungus?
