RPSI’s Steam Train No. 4 in HDR

The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s steam train No. 4 at Wicklow Train Station, Ireland on Sunday 21st June 2010.

5 exposures at f/10, tone mapped in Photomatix then some levels & curves in Photoshop CS5.

3pm, harsh sun and clear blue skys far from ideal – but they wouldn’t wait ’till 9:30pm!
Converted to B&W using ‘Calculations’ method.

    Taken with a Canon EOS 7D and a Sigma 10-20mm f/4 at 11mm

    All comment welcome.

    I love trains :-)
However, this one does nothing for me. I know conditions were tough, but the blown sky is a killer. The main gripe I would have is the rail line on the right draws your eye away down under the bridge in the distance. I keep looking down there, coming back to the engine but then off down the tracks again. The railings and building up on the left platform are also a big distraction.
I do however love the movement of the smoke and steam.

    My 2c worth!
