Rush Hour on "La Rambla"
-
LoGillParticipant
Just back from Barcelona and some places around abouts and I’ve started trawling through the hundreds of shots from the trip :)
Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy – My FAVOURITE thing :DAnyway – first off the presses
C&C Welcome
L
FlipflipParticipantWow.
Really excellent capture.
Looks like an advert shot of some sort.
Fair play!
DavePParticipantA very empty La Rambla, you must have been up very early or very late. I think it is a great image and great conversion. Did you use channel mixer for the conversion? If so would you mind letting me know what your RGB levels were. I know that the values will differ from image to image but I am trying to see if there are any effects that are common when the same levels are used.
ThanksmarkdonParticipantExpresbroParticipantWelcome back Lorraine…glad ya enjoyed the trip. Should have known you’d arrive back with a hatful of great shots. This is a really unusual and interesting composition..really well captured and converted. Don’t know how you managed to get that peculiar stance with the back foot totally flat on the ground and the front one resting on the heel. Almost like an entry in the Monty Python Ministry of Funny Walks competition..
Great image :D
RodcunhaParticipantLorraine what a photo you got here, everything in it is just a beauty! The blurred car lends some movement to the shot without detracting your attention from the main subject, the sense of urgency in this shot is amazing, great enfasis and the perfect moment to press the shutter!
I’m 100% sure this will get top marks in any competition!
All the best,
Rod
pete4130MemberLove this one. Screams commercial advert! Very well spotted too using the slow shutter speed. La Rambla is usually too busy to get anything more than touristy snaps.
I’m guessing this was early in the morning as that street is certainly busy in a different way at night time!
I can this appealing to almost everyone who sees it.
Pete.
RobMemberFanbloodytastic Lorraine. Could I say more?
I could say “WOW”. Superb work.Rob.
GrahamBParticipantWell everything I could say has been said
so – welcome back and great pictureLoGillParticipantThanks for all the feedback guys, I’m delighted to see this get a positive response as I quite like this shot myself :D – that said I think looking at it that again that I need to re-work the halo around his legs a bit …. its niggling me :)
This was evening on La Rambla .. ;) getting the last of the light really, it was pretty full of people – mostly strollers though :) For the conversion I used Ciaran’s LAB conversion method for this time and then added a couple of Levels layers for texture here and there http://www.thewonderoflight.com/tutorial_conversion.htm A while ago Brandyman was preparing a tutorial on using channel mixer – try https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?p=20179&highlight=channel+mixer#20179
Its a week late for entering into the CC competition themed “Work” grrrr  but I’m sure I’ll print it and use it one of these days. I have to say I wouldn’t have seen the “commercial” aspect to the shot – so not my thing really … but I see that a bit now .. Thanks 8)
hehehe – The Monty Python funny walks .. a classic :)
L
SteveDParticipantWow very cool Lorraine! He looks like something from the Matrix! You got him at a good moment, coat flowing behind him! Just a pity the car wasn’t more to the right hand side. Next time you must have Ciaran directing the traffic for you!!
RobertoMemberLoGillParticipantCheers Steve.. hmmm tell Ciaran to go play with the traffic Hmmmm  Should have thought of that before :D
;) Roberto , No snow in Barca .. absolutely beautiful weather, 21 degrees every day apart from one rainy morning and then on the last day freezing cold wind …
;) L
jb7ParticipantCool shot Lorraine-
May I ask what drove you to crop it that way?
The shopper across the street could maybe do with just a little more space-j
LoGillParticipantCheers JB – The reason for the crop was to exclude street furniture and clutter (a lampost, rubbish bin and corner of a street booth) on the right side of the shot.. it looked messy and added nothing to the shot, the edge of the shopper is lost behond the lampost anyway so i cut it there..
