Ryanair – carry on luggage
-
plainoldmeMember
I went to madrid recently, and my only option was to put my camerastuff into a backpack as the camera backpack i had was over the size restrictions. although, i was really gutted in the airport, when getting on the plane so many people were bringing on small suitcases as hand luggage, there was no way my camera bag could have been a problem!
I’ve never seen them weigh hand luggage regardless of size. I reckon it would be okay.Heading to germany in a few weeks time and this time i’ll be bringing the whole lot with me! ;)
PixelleMember.

They weighed my hand luggage 2 days ago at the check-in in Dublin.
plainoldmeMemberi suppose i stand corrected then! Hope it wasnt a problem for you pixelle! :D
PixelleMemberThanx, all was serene. I was away from home for only 2 nights but it is getting quite difficult to avoid excess charges.
Oh yes, I now know that parking charges are per day or part of a day. :(
And that I could have saved some money if I had pre-booked online for the carpark. :( :(JMac-2006Participantjust back from paris and arrived early 5 mins after they start checking size and weight of all bags – and only one allowed per person – same in heathrow but not as bad a couple days later with aerlingus. was lucky as dont think my bag was below size or weight ;)
definitely seems to be a clampdown as previously i have gone on with suitcase and laptop
rc53MemberI travel between Ireland and Switzerland once or twice a month, at present with Air Lingus from Dublin to Zurich.
I’ve gone regularly with Easjet between Belfast and Geneva, or via Liverpool/Luton to Zurich
I normally only have a carry on — so I check-in on line. The carriers’ regulations say only bags of 55x40x20 cms, with variable weights are allowed — the 20 cm depth is very limiting
and is bigger on longer haul flights. In the UK — Belfast specially — you won’t get into the security with more than one bag — so carry as
much as you can wear, lots of pockets — or you will be made to go back and check something in.
In Dublin you can — perhaps could — get through security with one appropriate case and a smaller second thing,
and perhaps have a camera around the neck.In Switzerland, I’ve seen Easyjet people make customers size their hand luggage, and when oversize, make them
check it in — this was in Basel.I’ve not yet seen hand luggage weighed.
Usually in Switzerland they will allow a case and a smallish something else through security.
Strangely perhaps, though I don’t normally buy any duty free stuff, a bag so labelled seem to get onto
the plane without difficulty — you could of course have one folded on your person, go through security
and then decant stuff from your pockets.Only once — many years ago — did I get to the [smallish] plane only to be told that my rucksack was too big
for the overheads [which was certainly correct] — it was taken off me — and it didn’t go on the same plane, but arrived a day later.Yet like others, I seen lots of people bring huge portmanteaux on as ‘carry on’ — so big that they can hardly struggle
down the aisle — and not be stopped.peterasmithMemberAer Arann have routinely checked the weight of my carry on at Waterford Airport the last 4 trips. It ended up in the hold the first time around. Yet on the return trip the staff at Luton haven’t yet weighed it!
ExpresbroParticipantI can see a time coming when Ryanair and similar airlines will start weighing passengers!! Can you imagine.
Sorry Sir/Madam…you are 8 Kilos over the allowance…hehehe!!

Your baggage is weighed partly to calculate the total weight of passengers and luggage for the flight, and
thus the amount of avaition fuel needed.Passengers are only an estimated weight — to weigh passengers would be an infringement of your rights; I’m
sure Mick would do so if he could.OTOH, he might consider making very overweight passengers buy two tickets — have you ever been between
grossly overweight people — you can’t move, nor hardly breathe.FrankCParticipantrc53 wrote:

I think the 2 tickets thing also happens in the US/Canada (or certainly was talked about).
dar_dParticipantWell as far as Inkw this is a new policy by Ryanair. Only one piece of handluggage is allowed strictly, everything else is 30 yoyo extra.
If a woman approaches with her carry on and her handbag if her handbag cannot fit in the carry on she will be charged and the same goes for duty free stuff bought..
Madness
peterasmithMemberBut if you buy the duty free in the airport then they’re not to know! You can buy suitcases in the duty free section and fill them up with all sorts of junk from the shop…
