I had a lovely day at the Zoo on Monday, on the way out I asked one of the keepers
how the Jaguar was, hadnt seen him out for a long time. He died while having surgery
for cataracts, apparently he was riddled with cancer, he was one of my favourite
animals, also asked after the Lion and was told he had also died, from old age but
still a great loss. He was the oldest Lion in captivity a great age at 25! They have
actually had him stuffed, so I am sure he will be on show somewhere.
So my two favourites had gone :( It must be devastating for the keepers who must
get very attached to them.
This might be old news to some, but I only found out on Monday.
I remember that Jaguar well. I was at the zoo a couple of years ago with my son and nephew and we were looking at it and this nutter standing beside me said…”I got one of those at home….lives in my garage” At the time there had been a few incidents reported in the papers of the cops finding exotic/dangerous animals in residential homes in parts of Dublin so I never knew if he was telling the truth or was just mad !!!
That reminds me of my son years ago named his cat Rover and everyone
said to him he couldnt call a cat Rover as it was a dogs name……he used
to raise his eyes to heaven and say “its a car!” :)
