Saint Maelruain’s Church

I shot this in the graveyard attached to the church in Tallaght, Co. Dublin.
RobertoMemberpositronMemberIt really does!! Can’t tell whats giving it that effect though – is it the clouds? Did you darken (oh, very technical word there! :p) it or something? Okay, I can see a slight border or something around the towers…
joolsveerParticipantRobMemberHi Dave. I like your shots, having a definite preference for the first. I’m a big fan of graveyards (as opposed to cemeteries) and spend a lot of time exploring old ones. One thing I will say about both images though is that I find them a little flat and very heavily grey. Were these captured in black and white or converted from colour? I just feel that both images need quite a bit more contrast and a good dollop of sharpening to really bring out the detail in this wonderful old building. I’m only a novice at the whole photoshop end of things but there are others here (Mick451 for instance) who could point you in the right direction as regards postprocessing images to bring them to their full potential.
Regards
Rob.
joolsveerParticipantRobMemberDefinitely an improvement Dave. Perhaps you could do the same to the first image which is stronger in my opinion. This image is marred slightly by the blown whites of the top left corner, not your fault of course, just available light.

AliParticipantoooh the first is very eerie :) I like it. Love the way the tree almost frames the right hand shot and fits in perfectly with the shape of the church.
The rails around the grave are also giving a leading line alongside the path and subsequently, towards the the building. Nice one :) I wouldn’t spot that in a million years.joolsveerParticipantThanks Ali. Your comments make me think of Halloween.
The reason I went to this churchyard was that I believe my granny was buried there in 1924. Of course I had no luck in locating the grave. I intend writing to the rector to see if he can help. Has anyone here got any experience in tracing deceased relatives? Any pointers?
