Salt Hotel – Bolivia

This hotel is made from blocks of salt and located in the middle of the largest salt lake in Bolivia. I think I will get comments about too much sky in this photo?

You may be right there, I personally think that it lends very well to the distance aspect of the photo.

    I like it alot

Great looking location and a fine picture too – I agree the amount of sky adds to it.

Good sense of space and not too much sky at all in my opinion. Just one minor niggle, the horizon is not straight. You need to rotate the image about a degree anticlockwise. Interesting shot though. I can actually see this working even better cropped to panorama/letterbox format.

Nice image only thing I’d really moan about would be the cars. Would make a great B&W

Most of the valid points have been made already ? horizon, cars, etc. I like the saturation, converging lines in the foreground and the sheer beauty of the sky. I think that the sky works well. It adds to the impression of remoteness and isolation. The image and the brief comment attached to it work for me to the extent that it is a location that I?d like to visit if I were somewhere in that area (which isn?t terribly likely, I admit). But a travel photo has probably succeeded, when it awakens some desire in the viewer to go there.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Rob: Thanks, I’ve corrected the horizon on original now. It’s funny how you never notice these things yourself.

gavin: I’ve tried it in B&W but while the clouds look great I think the picture loses too much impact?

yeah it does, needs a fair bit of PS work to give the needed punch.
