Thanks Mikka, this is my first time posting with images and couldn’t figure it out at first. Sorted now I think.
MikkaParticipantAh that’s so much better. The Puffin IMO is the best of the 5 followed by the Gannet colony………Mikka

5 fab shots! They’re not sandeels though.
Thanks a million Paidraig, and well spotted. I’ve updated the post. they are sprats aren’t they?? :)
PadraigParticipantI think so. Sandeels are in decline thanks to global warming and Puffins have to find other food sources. Great shots, I’ve yet to manage one with its beak full.
GoosebankerParticipantNice shots, I like the wideangle one (2nd last) the best. I think the razorbill portrait could benefit from a slight contrast tweak to darken the blacks down a touch.

Thanks Goosebanker, I appreciate the comments. I tried that contrast tweak and I seem to lose a bit of the detail in his feathers. I’m no PS expert by any means so I mightn’t be doing it right, but I do know what you mean so I’ll have another go at it.
Mick.
miki gParticipantmunsterman28ParticipantGreat shots……………was the gannet colony one taken with a polarizer?
I’ve tried taken many gannet shots from baots in west cork but always at a distance. The gannets on the Saltees seem indifferent to humans…is that right?

Thanks very much miki g.

Hi Munsterman, no polorizer, had one in the bag but didn’t use it incase I got an uneven shade of blue across the sky. I did adjust the curves in photoshop to make it slightly more contrasty.
The gannets there do seem to be pretty indifferent to humans and you can get very close to them, but its not a good idea to get too close as they are either sitting on eggs or chicks and the last thing you’d want to do is frighten them off their nests. Having said that, there’s no need to actually frighten them off the nests as you can get so close anyway.
Definately worth a visit if you enjoy photographing birds.djordanParticipantMick as i already said on pixie, i love your pics, they are so alive and have great colour, well done mate :)
