Saltees – last of this batch

Alan RossiterParticipant
Here’s a few more that I processed – not purely wildlife so lobbed it into this section.
This seemed to be part of a greeting ritual. I don’t know enough about them to suggest a mating ritual but they were all doing this and the head shaking thingy. It looks a little over sharpened on compression.
You just gotta love these guys. Sort of a bird of peace for the circus.
This was an odd one. The sun had just come out and the colours were a little peculiar. I toned them down and sharpened and this is how it turned out. The clouds were not enhanced…seriously!
Some asked how close could you go…this close enough? This is probably as close as we would be able to get anyway without disturbing the colony who seemed surprisingly tolerent of the invasion. It’s almost like Jurassic park. You don’t see a gannet then you come over the crest of a hill where I took this from and there they are all down a deep ravine. They stank like hell though.Alan
BMParticipantThe 3rd is almost like a Victorian plate print. Remarkable effect. I like it. The sky is amazing and the early morning light is almost surreal.
OscarParticipantDenverDollParticipantMy favorite set of yours ever!
The first and third are dream shots.
And ya know..I am just too tired to say anything smart right now…so just leave it at that.. :)
mgstParticipantLove the first two Alan great set and looks like a fantastic place to visit.
Mick
BrickeeParticipantAnother fine set Alan,
You lads had quite a day. It looks like the Gannets have no fear of peopls.
JimsteelydanParticipantNice set Alan my fav been Number one as the pose of the two Gannets is excellent. well spotted in that crowd. The reason why you get so close to them at this time of year is the females stay on the nest while the males fish, thats the only time you will get this close. And as far as i am aware it a 2-3 week window in May/June you can only do this (this is what im told ,by a member of birdwatch ireland)
latchikoParticipantThat’s a great set of images, it looks like a fascinating place. I always wondered how close you could get to these birds without disturbing them – it appears that you can get a lot closer than I would have thought!
Mr.HParticipantAgree with all above – these and the ones in the wildlife section are great. The Puffin would be my fave here.
For me, that third one definately has a Hogarth feel to it. You seem to have crammed all of gannet humanity(?) into it.
