Salthill Monday night
-
5faytheParticipant
To round off a lovely few days in Galway I wandered to
Salthill on Monday night for a last (for this time) look
around before heading home.John.
PixelleMemberWoo-hoo! I like the bicycle wheel. Such a lovely light graceful quality.
I’m trying to decide though if the fact that the red light doesn’t continue all the way round improves the shot?
On the whole I think it does – it emphasises the movement and makes it seem as if it is about to break loose and head downtown.5faytheParticipantHi Pixelle,
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
The exposure was shorter than the time for a
full rotation of the wheel.John.
kenhParticipantNo. 1 is a lovely shot John – what really makes it is is beautiful contrasting sky – nice memory of what sounds
like a good holiday.aoluainParticipantNice set there John.
I like the mono conversion of the second!
The 3 lads really add to the image, could do possibly with a bit of brightening
but that is a very minor issue.Nice range of colours in the first. I think a closer
crop or larger wheel in the image would have been stronger.Nice though
Alan
5faytheParticipantThanks Ken. It was a nice few days.
I was a beautiful evening even at the late hour.
I was walking around in a t-shirt (Jeans and stuff as well) which is
unusual for late evening in Ireland.Hi Alan, I appreciate your comments.
Both these images were taken quite late (I think around 10.30pm).
In #1 I was trying to leave the feeling of late evening.
I converted because in colour I felt the distant background was a bit
intrusive.
I think without the 3 lads I would’nt have taken it at all.
The plan was to get swimmers in mid dive. (I know. “Cliched”) but they gave
up just as I approached. In #2 I was trying to get the car trails as they drove along the Prom.
I also liked the fact that there was not a big crowd around and yet the
wheel was working away.Cheers,
John.
MallachtParticipant5faytheParticipantthedarkroomParticipantReally like the first one and the fact that the red light doesn’t do the full rotation doesn’t take away from it. The red lights against the dark sky and the dark band of the wheel against the bright patch works well to make the full circle stand out. The really dark ground probably could have benefitted if it had some detail but I wouldn’t be overly upset by the lack of it. An excellent shot.
I’m not overly pushed by the second shot even though I do like black and white work generally and it was what I was reared on. I think this one just doesn’t do it for me this time,David
