Samuel Beckett Bridge (fixed image link!)

mnixonParticipant
Went out on friday night for a few shots of the city, my 1st time doing night shots, played round with the settings and learned a lot, this one turned out the best in my opinion
Advise very much appreciatedaoluainParticipantHi Mark,
Im probably not the best person to dole out advice on night time photography
but I think this was a difficult ont to compose and expose correctly. You made a good stab at it IMO but I think the biggest single thing that is letting
it down is the composition.I would try a panoramic crop to rid the image of the bottom half as I dont think
it is adding to the scene. the crop would still retain some of the lovely reflectionsAlso you would need to post the image on a larger scale for the viewers to get
a better feeling of the detail.Alan
JMac-2006ParticipantThanks for posting – hadn’t realised the bridge was in place – have to head down there myself and have a go
I think this is a good effort – not that i am any expert quite the opposite in fact :) – but i think there is a bit too much competing for attention
could you have moved closer to the bridge or did you try to shoot from the other side of the liffeyhave you any other shots from the night
mnixonParticipantSorry didn’t realise how small it was!
Here’s a link to a bigger size

here’s another couple from the night, i know they’re overexposed, I’m new to this so i’ll go back and get some better ones another night when i’ve had a bit more experience!

Yea the crop suits better.
The others are certainly colourful! nice scenes.
I think though in all you are doing the exposures a
bit too long [over exposure].The lights are seriously blown, particularly in the
second colour one on the right it is very bleached out.So I would used less exposure next time out.
Alan
mnixonParticipantThanks for the advise Alan,
The other 2 shots i added were the 1st shots I took of the night and started off with a 30s exposure time, I realised by the end of the night that this was way too long but didn’t bother going back to try again. I’ll head back in a month or 2 when I’ve learned a bit more and see what changes i can make :)
Mark
JMac-2006ParticipantThanks Mark for posting some more, the black and white cropped version is really good – less competing colours etc – looks like good place
